Wife of Former NHL Player Praises Tate McRae’s Outfit Choices for Alleged Date with Devils Star Jack Hughes

This weekend, former NHL forward JT Brown’s wife, Lexi LaFleur Brown, spoke out about the growing speculation surrounding singer Tate McRae and New Jersey Devils star Jack Hughes after a fan-circulated photo of the couple surfaced online over the weekend.
On Saturday, Lexi retweeted an image shared by B/R Open Ice that referenced the two men spotted together in New York and attributed the original sighting to Deuxmoi. In her caption, she gave a lighthearted nod to McRae’s wardrobe choice, writing:
“Showed up to date wearing his team colors. I know an experienced and respected vet when I see one 🙂↕️.”
The post followed B/R Open Ice’s update noting that Hughes, currently recovering from shoulder surgery, had been seen “out and about” in Manhattan having dinner with McRae. The image and accompanying reports fueled rumors that the two were spending time together, although neither has made a public comment and no confirmation of a relationship has been made.
The Calgary-born singer, songwriter and dancer first broke through as a runner-up on “So You Think You Can Dance” before signing with RCA and becoming one of the biggest young pop acts of the last five years. She gained worldwide recognition with her 2020 hit “You Broke Me First,” followed by the success of her debut album “I Used to Think I Could Fly” in 2022 and her 2025 project “So Close to What.”
Jack Hughes out for at least eight weeks after ‘chance accident’
Jack Hughes faced another tough time earlier last week after the New Jersey Devils announced he injured his hand in a freak accident during a team dinner in Chicago on November 15. The team advised that Hughes was cut by broken glass and that the injury was serious enough that he required surgery on his finger.
The procedure was performed in New York by Dr. Robert Hotchkiss of the Hospital for Special Surgery. After the surgery, the Devils announced that Hughes would be out for eight weeks and that doctors would check his progress after six weeks.
The exact details of how the glass cut him were not yet clear, although multiple reports confirmed the accident happened during Thursday’s team dinner.
The injury ended a strong start to the season for the 24-year-old. Hughes had 10 goals and 20 points in 17 games and helped the Devils to a 12-4-1 record and first place in the Metropolitan Division.
Injuries have also been a problem for him in previous seasons. Hughes underwent shoulder surgeries in 2024 and 2025, which limited him to 62 games each year, and he also missed time with a dislocated shoulder earlier in his career.
The timing also caused a problem for USA Hockey, as Hughes was expected to be on the U.S. roster for the upcoming Olympic return. He had previously played for Team USA in the 4 Nations showdown earlier this year, but his recovery schedule now left his Olympic status uncertain.
