Google will soon start leaving children under the age of 13 uses its Gemini chatbot

Next week, Google will start to authorize children under the age of 13 who have Google accounts managed by parents to use its Gemini chatbot, according to the New York Times.
Times reports that Gemini will be available for children whose parents use Family Link, a Google service that allows families to opt in various Google services for their child. A Google spokesperson told the publication that Gemini had specific railing for young users and that the company will not use this data to form its AI.
As the Times notes, the chatbot manufacturers run to capture a younger audience while the AI race is heated. It is despite the fact that chatbots today are at best imperfect – and potentially harmful to the worst. The United Nations educational, scientific, scientific and cultural organization at the end of last year has prompted governments to regulate the use of generative AI in education, including the implementation of age limits for users and railing on data protection and user confidentiality.
