NotebookLM is not your typical AI tool. It’s Google’s Powered by Gemini AI research assistant that only uses the sources you provide it instead of scouring the vastness of the Internet. It can answer questions and generate several useful results, whether it is a backgrounder, mind map, study guide, quiz, audio file or Video previewsit’s undeniably useful and flexible.

Last week, Google released an update that will allow users to generate flashcards and quizzes within the NotebookLM app, opening a new door for people trying to study on the go. We hope this also indicates that Google is working to bring even more web app features to mobile devices.

The app is still missing many features, but this is a solid first step in making it as robust as its web counterpart.

Create quizzes and flashcards in a snap

Now you can create flashcards or a quiz based on your sources in a notebook in the Studio tab of the NotebookLM app.

The two functionalities come together Audio previewswhich is the only generative AI feature in the Studio tab since its launch in May this year.

You will be able to slightly customize the number of flashcards or questions provided as well as the difficulty level. And if you have a lot of material, a window prompts you to specify what you want the quiz or cards to focus on, so you’re not tested on topics you’ve already mastered.

NotebookLM chat is smarter

In the blog announcement post, Google also highlighted that the NotebookLM app received all new chat improvements it was released earlier this month.

Chat in NotebookLM has received several front-end and back-end updates intended to make the overall experience more natural and accurate. Google has expanded the pop-up to 1 million tokens, meaning it can consider more information when providing a response, and increased its capacity for multi-round conversations by six times, so it can keep important past context front and center.
