Github CEO to resign

Github CEO Thomas Dohmke announced on Monday that he was leaving his role. Dohmke will remain in the company belonging to Microsoft until the end of the year, after which he will leave to become “a founder,” he wrote in a blog article.

Axios reports that Microsoft will not directly replace the position and that Github leadership will now report to several leaders of Microsoft.

“With more than 1b rest and forks, and more than 150 million developers, Github has never been stronger than today,” wrote Dohmke. “We have seen more open source projects with more contributions each year. AI projects have doubled in the past year. And our presence in businesses of all size is unrivaled on the market. ”

This decision comes as Github is faced with growing companies like Google and Cursor on AI tools for programmers.
