The party atmosphere that follows IndiaDominant ODI series wins South Africa was briefly overshadowed by a fiery confrontation. Head coach of India Gautam Gambhirwhile speaking at the post-match press conference, slammed the critics, with his sharpest words reserved for an unnamed IPL team owner who had publicly called for a split coaching model in Indian cricket.

Shared coaching suggestions rise after India testing struggle

Although Gambhir did not name the individual, it was clear that his comments were directed at Parth Jindalthe co-owner of Delhi Capitals (DC)whose post on social media following India’s recent Test series defeat had sparked controversy.

Notably, the tension began following India’s surprise 0-2 defeat in the Test series against South Africa at home. The Test team, in a transition phase following the retirements of several senior players, faced immense scrutiny, especially after a heavy defeat in one of the matches. It was following this disappointment that Jindal took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his frustration and propose a structural change in Indian cricket.

“Not even close, what a complete drubbing at home! I don’t remember seeing our Test team being so weak at home!!! This is what happens when red ball specialists are not chosen. It’s time for India to move to a specialist red ball coach for Test cricket,” Jindal had tweeted.

Gautam Gambhir slams IPL team owner for shared coaching suggestion

Gambhir’s opportunity to respond to the criticism came after India secured the ODI series against the Proteas with a convincing performance. While reflecting on the media attention, Gambhir quickly turned to the public comments made by the IPL owner. In a noticeably stern and pointed message, Gambhir stressed the importance of respecting professional boundaries.

“There have been a few things said by people who had no connection with cricket. An IPL owner also wrote about shared coaching. It’s very surprising. It’s important that people stay in their domain. We don’t enter their domain. So, they have no right to interfere in what we do,” Gambhir said in the post-match presser.
