Frances Tiafoe could not escape its popularity during the Wimbledon 2025 championships, losing in the second round against the favorite at home Cameron Norrie. As a 12th seeded, its early release was a shock for many fans.
The Tiafoe season has been a roller coaster so far, without titles with its name and with disappointing projections to the Australian Open and the French Open. His advantage in Wimbledon also did not inspire a lot of confidence, because he came out in the round of 16 in his only heating event from Grass-Court to Queen’s.
The American began his campaign at SW19 on a strong note, passing in front of Elmer Moller 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. But this spark lacked when he returned to the court on Wednesday July 2. Against Norrie, he looked at rhythm and had trouble maintaining his level, finally falling 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 5-7.

The release of the second round of Frances Tiafoe at Wimbledon 2025 only added to the difficulties for American tennis in London. With several high level names already, its loss means that 14 of the 32 seeds for men have been eliminated.
Coco Gauff was amazed by Dayanana Yastremska in the first round, while Jessica Pegula also suffered an early outing, losing against Elisabetta Cocciretto. Among the other American women who bowed in the first round include Peyton Stearns, McCartney Kessler, Iva Jovic, Alycia Parks and Taylor Townsend.
