Former world champion calls out Errol Spence for comeback fight in new division

Errol Spence Jr continues to be linked with a return despite his extended inactivity. Today, the former unified titleholder was publicly called out by another former world champion.

Spence has yet to fight since his devastating defeat while vying for the undisputed welterweight throne against Terence Crawford in July 2023, where he suffered a first career defeat.

In that fight, “The Truth” was noticeably hampered by his struggles to make 147 pounds and the southpaw is rumored to be fighting at both super welterweight and middleweight.

On Saturday night, following a second hometown victory in 2025, former WBC super welterweight titlist Tony Harrison called out Spence Jr. in his post-fight interview, as the Detroit fan favorite revealed his plans for a clash at 160 pounds, in a clip captured by Thrill Boxing.

“Middleweight is where I feel comfortable, I did well at weight, but I just fought against the southpaw and the good thing about being from Detroit is I know when someone has an itch. I know when someone wants to come back to the sport, I know when someone has an itch to come back to the sport.

“I want to fight someone of my generation; I think a fight with Errol Spence would please everyone. I think him and I were coming back, champion against champion, skill against skill, stamina against stamina.

“I’m not racing, I’m here to get hit, so if you’re feeling like a man, I love you buddy, but let’s give the fans what they want to see.”

Now 35, Spence Jr. says he will return to boxing when he is ready, although Harrison would undoubtedly be a viable option if that time came soon.
