Food exports decrease by 1.04%, imports increased by 0.56% in 10 months

Islamabad: exports from the country’s food group in the last 10 months of the current financial year decreased by 1.04%, while food imports increased by 0.56% compared to imports and exports from last year’s corresponding period.
During the 2024-25 July-April 2024-25 period, worth $ 6.164 billion was exported to exports of $ 6.229 billion from the same period last year, according to data from Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
Meanwhile, food products worth $ 6.855 billion was imported in the first 10 months of the current financial year, against imports of $ 6.817 billion from the same period last year, he added.
Over the past 10 months, data indicate a significant decrease in the importation of certain products. More specifically, unmoved wheat imports decreased by 100%. Tea imports also had a decrease of 5.13%, from $ 547.43 million to $ 519.368 million during the revised period.
Conversely, certain foods have increased imports. Milk cream and food food for infants experienced a growth of 18.35%. During this period, 28,513 metric tonnes of these products, worth 103.322 million dollars, were imported, against 26,158 metric tonnes worth $ 87.302 million during the same period last year.
Other products showing positive import growth included soybean oil, which jumped from 139.82% to 279.626 million dollars, and palm oil, which increased by 24.78% to reach $ 2.87 billion. This is compared to imports of $ 116.6 million for soy oil and $ 2.3 billion for palm oil during the corresponding period last year. During the period from July 2024 to April 2025, Basmati rice exports experienced growth of 3.36%.
The country exported 702,598 metric tonnes of basmati rice worth $ 722.708 million, compared to 612,126 metric tonnes worth $ 699.208 million in the same period last year. Pakistan’s profits from the exports of fish and fish products reached $ 370.891 million for 171,886 metric tonnes during the revised period.
