For a split second he disappeared. But before fans could really feel the impact, the 1987 horror classic Killer clowns from space was back on Tubi. The cult favorite is an installation on the streaming service and doesn’t appear to be going away for long.
Killer clowns from space It is the small town of Crescent Cove, which has a nearby college attended by the main characters Mike and Debbie. One night, while they are at the local makeup point, a shooting star flies overhead and crashes in a nearby field. The pair set out to explore the phenomenon, only to find a giant circus tent with mysterious portions of cotton candy stored inside.
When they realize the horrible truth about cotton candy, they bring it to David, a police officer who is also Debbie’s ex. Also joined by two of Mike’s friends and an ice cream truck, Debbie, Mike and David are all that stands between the townsfolk and the Killer Klowns.
Killer clowns from space It was the kind of movie that 80s kids watched on TBS at midnight. Even for the 80s, this is more of a horror comedy than a horror film. Despite the eerie appearance of the titular Klowns Valley, the clown-themed horrors, like balloon animals, shadow puppets, popcorn guns, and deadly cream pies, are all played for humor. There is only one “gory” scene in the entire film, and it’s always a punchline that ties back to the clown theme.
What’s good about a fun movie like Killer clowns from space being on Tubi means that, despite commercial interruptions, it remains intact. Viewers can experience the film in all its zany glory, from Officer Mooney’s first (and last) patrol to the explosive final moments.
Killer clowns from space worth a watch, especially since it’s free, if only to gawk at the spectacle and wonder what we were thinking in the 1980s. It’s available for free on Tubi, but if you want to watch it in HD you’ll need an Amazon Prime subscription.
