The American official says that Trump will not go to Türkiye for the discussions offered in Russia-Ukraine
US President Donald Trump will not go to Turkey Thursday for direct talks offered between Russia and Ukraine, said an American official, in whom Russian president Vladimir Putin will obviously not participate.
The official spoke after Putin announced the Russian delegation for talks, a list that did not include the Russian chief himself. Trump had played with the idea of going to Turkey if Putin was there.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is said to be on the way to the Turkish capital of Ankara. “We are on the way,” said a senior Ukrainian official on Wednesday, who asked not to be identified due to the sensitivity of the situation, in Reuters.
Putin offered direct negotiations on Sunday with Ukraine in Istanbul on Thursday “without any prerequisite”.
Trump earlier this week urged Ukraine to attend talks and that Zelenskyy quickly said he would be there, but only if Putin presented himself, creating a diplomatic confrontation as part of an apparent competition to show Trump who wants more peace.
Threat of more sanctions
American and Western Europe leaders have threatened Russia with new sanctions if there is no progress in the stopping of fighting in Ukraine.

The president of Ukraine says that he is ready to meet the Vladimir Putin of Russia for cease-fire talks this week-provided that a break in the fights begins today. I am talking about global affairs analyst Michael Borciukiw, of the last entirely of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
The member of the Democrating Congress, Jim Himes, told CNN that he saw no reason for Trump – or Zelenskyy – to be in Türkiye if Putin was not going.
“I think everyone understands that Putin is not interested in real peace negotiations,” said Himes, a classification democrat of the intelligence committee of the American House of Representatives.
Himes said that “the real question” is now knowing how Trump should adjust the American position on Russia.
Russia launched its large -scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The UN says that the conflict has since killed at least 12,700 civilians and injured more than 30,000 others.
Before returning to the oval office, Trump had repeatedly said that he could end the war in 24 hours. More than three months after its new presidency, war continues.
