Conor Bradley has already shown that he could be better than Trent Alexander-Arnold, believes one of his oldest modern predecessors as Liverpool’s right arrival.
The captain of Northern Ireland Bradley is likely to compete for the position with 29.5 million pounds sterling from the signing of Jeremie Frimpong this season after Alexander-Arnold put an end to a 21-year-old association with the club to join Real Madrid.
“He is more than capable,” said former England international Glen Johnson about Bradley, 22.
“When he called last year, he intervened and undoubtedly, sometimes, played better than Trent. As long as he can do throughout the season, the hole will be filled fairly quickly.”
Bradley, Frimpong “can tow” in Liverpool
Dutch international Frimpong, who arrived from Leverkusen in May and scored during the defeat of the Sunday shield on Sunday against Crystal Palace, should start at home in Bournemouth on Friday (8:00 p.m. BST / 15:00 and / 12:00 pt), Bradley bearing a minor injury.
“If he and Frimpong can tow and be improved, the one who obtains an early momentum will probably be the one who begins,” observed Johnson, speaking via William Hill Vegas.
“But I really think that Conor Bradley has enough to take the position, that’s for sure. You could probably make wings with Conor Bradley. They both have an engine and can go up and down the ground.”
Frimpong recorded the fastest seventh speed in the Bundesliga last season at 36.34 km / h, while Virgil Van Dijk was the only Liverpool player to match 34.9 km / h of Bradley in the Champions League.

Johnson knows how difficult it is to excel in attack and defense as a right arrival, with his exceptional career featuring 200 appearances for Liverpool between 2009 and 2015, almost winning the title in 2013/14.
“Playing back for a whole season is demanding,” he said. “You are going to need legs. It is very trying because you are almost involved in everything.
“If the ball is on the left, you enter in the middle and almost a midfielder. When the ball is on your side, you are a straight winger and a right back.
“There are positions where you can have a little break but, behind or back, you can’t.
“Everyone obtains their statistics and figures and so on, but no one works only in the rear.”

Liverpool finished 10 arsenal points at the top of the table in 2024/25, helped by Manchester City to have a bad season according to their standards under Pep Guardiola.
Johnson expects the three clubs and another of his old teams, Chelsea, be among the challengers.
“There is a gap but Arsenal will be there and City will improve in its best,” predicted Johnson, whose achievements include a victory for FA Cup with Portsmouth in 2008, raising the EFL Cup with Liverpool in 2012 and heading for two editions of the World Cup and Euro 2012 on the way to win 54 Three Lions.
“With a little more consistency, I can see Chelsea being much closer to the title also. Winning any league is difficult, but the early momentum is still essential and these other teams will improve.”

Bradley played for the first time for Liverpool against Norwich City in September 2021, becoming the first North Irishman to present for them in a competition match from Sammy Smyth in 1954.
He finished the 2021/22 season on five appearances and won the Bolton player of the year and the player’s prices of the players while spending the next campaign on loan with Wanderers, as well as the victory of the EFL trophy.
After his return to his parent club, Bradley made 23 appearances in all competitions in 2023/24, scoring his first Liverpool goal during a 4-1 home victory against Chelsea in January 2024 and winning the EFL Cup the following month.
He made 29 appearances of Liverpool last season, with five of his seven departures after Alexander-Arnold said that he was leaving.

After 10 years in the ranks of young people from Manchester City, Frimpong left in 2019 for Celtic, with whom he won a triple Scottish and the young player of the club season in 2019/20.
Leverkusen signed FRIMPONG at the age of 20 in 2021, paying reported costs up to 11.5 million pounds sterling for a player who helped them win the Bundesliga and reach the Europa League final in 2023/24.
Frimpong was appointed to the Bundesliga team of the season for each of its last two campaigns at the club and made the first of its 13 senior appearances of Oranje in 2023, winning a place in their Euro 2024 team.
