Disney and Nexstar defend the decision

Despite speculation, Nexstar Media Group, the company which has several ABC affiliates, insisted that the cancellation concerned Jimmy Kimmel’s comments, and not on politics or assessments.
“Mr. Kimmel’s comments on the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive to a critical moment in our national political speech,” said Andrew Alford, head of the NEXSTAR broadcasting. “Continue to give Mr. Kimmel a dissemination platform in the communities that we serve is simply not in the public interest at present.”
The Federal Communications Commission also participated in the conversation. Commissioner Brendan Carr congratulated Nexstar and other local affiliates for deleting Kimmel’s program, applauding the decision which prioritized “the interests of their community”.

Trump says Jimmy Kimmel was dismissed for “bad grades”

Donald Trump, who has long been a target of Jimmy Kimmel’s late evening beards, doubled his disdain at a press conference in the United Kingdom alongside Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
“Jimmy Kimmel was dismissed because he had more bad grades than anything else,” said Trump. “He said a horrible thing about a great gentleman known as Charlie Kirk. And Jimmy Kimmel is not a talented person … They should have dismiss him a long time ago.”

While Trump celebrated the cancellation, several of Kimmel’s late evening peers were united with the suspended host. On Thursday, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers all used their platforms to weigh on the controversy, mixing humor with sharp criticism.
“To be honest with you all, I don’t know what’s going on. And no one does it,” said Fallon to his audience. “But I know Jimmy Kimmel, and he’s a decent, funny and loving guy, and I hope he will come back.”
Colbert struck a more serious note, exploding the suspension as a “blatant censorship”, while Stewart focused on ABC’s decision herself. Meyers, on the other hand, rocked ironic compliments for Donald Trump before emphasizing what he called the hypocrisy of the administration on freedom of expression.
