Eminem almost played in one of the most ambitious science fiction films of 2008

The history of science fiction of 2008 “Jumper”, “Edge of Tomorrow” and the director “The Bourne Identity” Doug Liman, is strewn with duty, of Évidus and even some in its history, in particular with regard to its casting. The film saw Hayden Christensen and Jamie Bell pave the way as a pairs of heroes with the ability to teleport while a former hunter order is led by Samuel L. Jackson. It was even up to a suite that never arrived. Addressing MTV News (via today), Liman recalled that the legendary rapper Eminem was approached for a role before Christensen received the call to jump to the project.

“We had a meeting. We had conversations with Eminem,” recalls Liman, who hinted that it was more a studio suggestion than someone he was looking for. “At that time, I had already met Hayden and I fell in love with Hayden,” said Liman. “It was one of those things where the studio, with all things equal to equality, prefers to put a bigger name in the film (and want Eminem). At one point, I just put my foot and I said:” I love Hayden “.” This does not say that the rap star had not already revealed that he had actor chops after delivering an impressive performance in the “mile coup”. It would not be the first and last project that he has close to joining.

Eminem came to join Landmark films but have transmitted them all

If Christensen had not been so high on Liman’s list of research for “Jumper”, the director clearly indicated that he could have managed someone who found himself in the role of Christensen, David Rice, even if it meant Marshall Mathers. “If I have proven something, it is that I can adapt a role to an actor … Develop the role … and make it extremely specific,” said Liman. “So, as long as the person has active chops, I am open to talking to almost anyone for almost any role.”

“Jumper” would not end up being the only film that Eminem has succeeded or was considered. Over the years, Mathers has been approached for very interesting films, notably “The Fast and the Furious”, playing the role in “Elysium” before Matt Damon, and even the road warrior holder of “Mad Max: Fury Road” before Tom Hardy took the lead. Another film with which he had been involved for a long time until the last minute was the hard -hitting boxing drama, “Southpaw”, which he remained on board as an executive producer before Jake Gyllenhaal replaces him. Since then, we had to settle for a few cameos here and there in “Funny People” by Adam Sandler and, more recently, “Happy Gilmore 2.” Perhaps, however, that he had had a better chance of “Jumper”, Eminem could have transformed the neglected science fiction film in the franchise that he had all the possibilities.
