“Ekta Kapoor is no longer associated with Altt”: Balaji TV movies clarify the stand after the ban on the Indian government 24 OTT platforms for the distribution of “vulgar” content: Bollywood News
Following the recent repression of the Indian government on 24 OTT platforms for having allegedly disseminated explicit content, one of the names that surfaced was Altt, formerly known as Altbalaji. In the midst of generalized speculation and media coverage, Balaji Telefilms Limited published a strong clarification of the distancing producer Ekta Kapoor and his mother Shobha Kapoor of the platform.

In an official declaration published on July 26, Balaji Telefilms stressed that the company is a “media organization managed by professionals” listed on the ESB and the NSE. The declaration has also confirmed that Altt is now operated only by Balaji Telefilms, following the approved merger of Alt Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. With the parent company on June 20, 2025.
“No more associated since 2021”
Clarification was published in response to media relationships suggesting that Altt had been handicapped by the authorities and always had links with Ekta and Shobha Kapoor. “Unlike these reports, Ms. Ekta Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are not associated with any title in Altt,” said the company, noting that the duo had officially left his roles in June 2021.
The company has firmly denied any innuendo linking them to current developments around the prohibition and urged the media to report in a responsible and factual manner.
The controversy comes from an order from the Ministry of Information and Broadcastion earlier this week, which ordered Internet service providers to block 24 OTT platforms which allegedly involved in the distribution of vulgar or sexually explicit content.
