Eddie Murphy Admits He Voiced Donkey in ‘Shrek’ Forever Despite Exhaustion

Eddie Murphy says Shrek session gives him ‘headaches’

Eddie Murphy, who voiced the Shrek’s Donkey, even from the beginning of the film series, confessed that he would continue to do this forever.

Now that the fifth sequel to the popular animated franchise is in the works, Murphy is excited to return to his old character.

In a statement, he added: “I always said I would do Shrek forever.”

The 64-year-old expressed his enthusiasm for Shrek5 talking to The Hollywood Reporter.

He added, “Donkey is a great character to play. I love the whole cast. So, I was excited when I was told, ‘Hey, they’re doing another one,’ and they want to do a Donkey too. I’m totally into it. I come in so hot, every voice session.”

Even though Murphy loves playing the character Donkey, he still says it gets a little exhausting at times.

“Nothing is worse than working really hard on something, putting on makeup and sweating and all that shit, and then you turn it off, and they’d be like, ‘Two thumbs down.’ You say, “I was in the makeup chair for 50 hours,” Eddie revealed.

The fifth part of Shrek is set to release on June 30, 2027. Besides Eddie, Cameron Diaz, Mike Myers, and Zendaya will voice Princess Fiona, Shrek, and Felicia, respectively.
