Donald Trump suggested that the United States government should examine all the subsidies transmitted to the Elon Musk commercial empire, saying that “big money” could be saved.
In an article on his social platform Truth early Tuesday, Trump said: “Elon could get more subsidies than any human being in history, by far, and, without subsidies, Elon should probably close the store and return to South Africa.”
Responding to Trump’s suggestion, Musk said in an article on his own social media platform X: “I literally say cut everything.” Now. “
The exchange comes as the gap between the two men concerning the bill on the tax and the expenses of the American president is deepened.
While the Senate continued on Tuesday with a voting session in the marathon on the bill, Musk renewed his attacks against the legislation which, according to him, would lead to “the greatest increase in the debt in history”.
The bitter public quarrel between the two marks a dramatic reversal from the start of Trump’s second term, when the president installed Musk at the head of the so-called Ministry of Government Effectiveness (DOGE) and responsible for finding savings in government.
In his message Tuesday, Trump added: “Maybe we should have taken a good, hard, watch this? Big money to save !!!”
Musk, managing director of companies, including Tesla and SpaceX, has criticized certain parts of the White House agenda since its departure in May, including the tax bill, which it previously called a “disgusting abomination”.
