Doc Star Jon Ecker’s Wife Laura James Joins the Show and Flirts With Him in First Sneak Peek

Not only is it Jon Eckerthe wife of, Laura Jamesjoining him on Doc — the old America’s Next Top Model the candidate can flirt with her husband on screen.
Us every week can exclusively confirm that James, 34, will play a patient’s sister in the Tuesday, Oct. 21, episode of the Fox medical series and appear in at least one other. In two excerpts from the show shared by WeEcker’s Jake meets James’ character at the hospital. After Jake begins treating James’ on-screen sister, the duo share a moment.
“So where are we going in the meantime?” » asks James’ character, to which Jake responds, “I have other patients to take care of, but the waiting room is probably your best option.” »
Jake’s colleagues share care after noticing the surprising dynamic. Jake, however, may no longer be able to handle further developments in his personal life. (Ecker and James, who married in 2022, share two children.)
Inspired by a true story, Fox’s Doc follows the head of internal medicine at the fictional Westside Hospital in Minneapolis, who suffers a traumatic brain injury in a car accident that causes him to lose his memory of the past eight years. Amy (Molly Parker) not only must remember her medical career and build a new life, but she must also deal with a shocking divorce from her husband and a death that changes the course of her future.
Season 1 introduced fans to Amy’s romance with Jake, which only he remembered. She eventually began to connect the dots and the fictional couple explored their connection, but Amy was unable to shake off her old feelings for Michael, now ex-husband (Omar Metwally).
In the finale, which aired in March, Jake saw Amy and Michael share an intimate moment. After the show’s renewal, Metwally and Ecker, 42, opened up about what viewers can expect as the love triangle gets more complicated.
“There was a lot of discussion and rewrites about this final episode — not necessarily about the situation — but about what the audience sees,” Ecker told Us at the time. “Do we end with Jake looking in or do we see what Jake sees? They even filmed it multiple ways. They weren’t really sure how we were going to end it.”
At the time, Ecker had questions about removing Jake, which he ultimately did in the Season 2 premiere.
“From Jake’s point of view, obviously it hurts, but I think over time he becomes very empathetic. Just by the nature of being a doctor and responding to people’s needs, once Jake gets over that hurt, I think it’s pretty understandable – Amy wants to fall back into Michael’s arms,” Ecker noted. “Because for her, she’s in a very fragile state and is looking for some sort of comfort and something solid. Since she misses the last eight years, I think Jake is going to understand why she feels the way she feels. So it’s that balance between how subjective and objective he can be with his emotions.”
He continued, “Even though we didn’t discuss it too much in Season 1, it’s mentioned that he has a history with his ex-wife and infidelities. So he’s going to be sensitive about that issue. I don’t think he’s going to react well. And then, in the future, it all depends on whether he can trust her or not. [which] is different whether or not he understands why she does what she does.
Ecker said We his character has even more options moving forward, including the decision to “move on to another relationship.”
“He might be a little jaded and on guard because now he’s actually been deceived twice,” he explained.
Doc airs on Fox Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET.
