Delhi’s High Court Sauves the IP rights of Andaz Apna Apna; Blocks unauthorized use of characters, dialogues and goods: Bollywood News
The High Court of Delhi Hon’ble, an order of May 14, 2025 in Vinay Pictures against Good Hope & Ors. [CS(COMM) 475/2025]adopted an important ex-Party AD-Innunction protecting intellectual property rights in the legendary Hindu film Andaz apna apna.

The applicant, Vinay Pictures, represented through his property Ms. Shanti Vinaykumar Sinha, legal heir to the late producer Mr. Vinay Sinha, sought an urgent relief against unauthorized unauthorized exploitation of the film and his underlying works which, such as characters, dialogues, slogans and other IP contents through the merchantis, Digital platforms, domain names and other IP content through merchandis, digital platforms, domain names and IP content.
The honest court, recognizing the emblematic and cult status of the film and its characters such as “Master Gogo”, “Amar”, “Prem” and dialogues like “Aila” and “Ouima”, retained more than 25 defendants, including sellers on platforms of electronic commerce, creators of digital content and web fields,
• Using any identical or derived content from the film; And
• Make or sell goods or products bearing the film’s IP; And
• Creation of AI or digital works that exploit characters or dialogues.
The court also ordered that YouTube, Godaddy, Desertcart, Flipkart, Meesho and others to delete counterfeit content, block access to the URLs and disclose details of the sellers and violent downloaders. Above all, the court confirmed the applicant’s brand rights and the exclusive right to commercially exploit the film and its elements. This historical order establishes a previous strong strongness for the application of intellectual property rights in Indian cinema and reaffirms that the inherited content has complete protection under the law of copyright and Indian brands, including against violation based on AI.
Mr. AMEET NAIK, defender of the applicant and partner at Anand & Naik, said: “This order is a resounding assertion of the rights of content creators inherited in the digital age. Andaz apna apna is not only a film, it is part of the cultural heritage of India, and its characters and dialogues appreciate emblematic status. The High Court of Delhi has recognized the importance of protecting creative work against creeping diversions, in particular by sellers of unauthorized goods and content generators based on AI. We are grateful to the appropriate intervention of the Court and believe that this order will serve as a previous criticism for the safeguarding of intellectual property in the cinema, in particular against new forms of digital exploitation. “”
