Daniel Dubois vs. Frank Sanchez heads to purse bid as Cuban reiterates desire to win title from Oleksandr Usyk | Boxing News

Frank Sanchez remains determined to earn a shot at the heavyweight world title, even though he has had to wait for a fight against Daniel Dubois.

The British contender had agreed to negotiate an IBF final eliminator against Sanchez last month, with the winner becoming mandatory challenger for the IBF title held by undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk.

But no deal was finalized during the designated negotiation period and the IBF issued a tender to determine terms for the November 13 fight.

Sanchez’s co-manager Mike Borao confirmed that the Cuban is still eager to face Dubois, although becoming Usyk’s main IBF challenger is his top priority.

“Of course Frank would rather fight a former world champion like Daniel Dubois to prove himself,” Borao told Sky Sports.

“At this point, though, Frank is just itching to fight for the number one position, whatever that may be.”

Dubois had also been linked with a fight against Agit Kabayel, the WBC interim champion, but the Germany-based fighter announced Damian Knyba as his next opponent.

Dubois’ manager Sam Jones recently told Sky Sports that the British heavyweight wants to quickly get back into world title contention after his reign as IBF champion ended with a stoppage defeat to Usyk in their July rematch.

“We are open to any fight that would bring Daniel closer to a world title,” Jones said. “That’s ultimately what Daniel wants to achieve.

“There will be no preparation fights for Daniel Dubois. At twenty-eight years old, he has just won a fight for the indisputable title so there will be no preparation fights. It’s back.”
