County Championship: Nottinghamshire won the first title in 15 years by obtaining the second strike point against Warwickshire | Cricket news

The captain of Nottinghamshire, Haseeb Hameed, led from the front with a century against the Warwickshire while they obtained the two bonus points they needed to be crowned from the county champions for the first time in 15 years.

Hameed scored 122 at the top of the order, setting up the hosts to comfortably place the 300 they needed to obtain the points to win a seventh title leaving the reach of the Surrey reigning champions.

Joe Clarke (52) and Kyle Verreynne maintained the momentum, the latter bringing his half-century with a cover reader for four before shooting his next score for six to get them through the line with style.

“It’s incredible. It’s a fantastic feeling,” the Mick Newell Cricket director told The Mick Newell, Nottinghamshire Bbc.

“We knew that these last three games were absolutely crucial and we were blessed with good weather to allow us to get on the field and get the points we need.

“Anyone who comes in front of Surrey played a fairly good cricket because they are really good and it’s a great tribute to our players.”
