Connor McDavid does not rush to sign an extension with the Oilers

Captain of Edmonton and Triple MVP Oilers Connor McDavid said earlier that he plans to take his time to decide whether or not to sign with EdmontonBecause his current contract should expire the dead season. In 2017, he signed a 100 million dollars contract over eight years which takes place until the end of the 2025-26 season.
“I said at the end of June, I intended to take my time with it, and I still feel the same thing,” McDavid told journalists. “I’m going to take my time and spend everything.”
McDavid was one of the many NHL stars who attended the Canadian Olympic Olympic Orientation Camp before the Winter Olympic Games in 2026 in Italy. He joked by saying that he hoped to answer questions from the Olympic Games, but reassured fans of the Oilers that he focuses only on victory.
“I intend to win in Edmonton,” said McDavid. “This is my only goal, maybe next to winning a gold medal with Canada. But that’s my intention: win there. “
Since he was drafted by the Oilers in 2015, Connor McDavid has helped the franchise become a team of sustainable qualifying series, reaching the playoffs seven times during his first ten years as a pro. Unfortunately for him, the Oilers are below a Stanley Cup championship after having suffered consecutive defeats against the Florida Panthers in the past two years.
Ideally, McDavid and the Oilers would like to finalize an agreement before the start of the regular season on October 7. But, he said that the two parties had not even started to negotiate a new contract.
“All the options are on the table, really,” said McDavid. “We cross it. I have no preference anyway. I want the group to be as concentrated and composed, and ready to roll from the first day as possible, and we do not need distractions. ”
The former agent of McDavid, Jeff Jackson, who is now the CEO of hockey operations for Edmonton’s Oilers, does not seem to be concerned about the negotiation process. He thinks that the two parties will be able to quickly conclude an agreement.
“He has another year. He likes to play Edmonton. And of course, we have concluded an agreement [in] At the beginning of September with Leon (Draisaitl), and we are very happy. So, I think in a way that it is the same with Connor, “said Jackson during an interview on the sheet with Jeff Marek’s podcast.” It will not be a long negotiation … It will be different from another kind of negotiation because it is not really, and I think that when Connor is ready, we will have the discussion, and we will do a business. “”
Whatever Jeff Jackson’s expectations, McDavid reiterated that he was not in a hurry to do anything.
“I’m going to take my time to cross my family, my agent and all the people involved,” he said. “We cross it slowly.”
The Edmonton Oilers training camp opens on September 17. Their first game of the regular season will be against the Calgary Flames on October 8 at 10:00 p.m. Hae.
