Tom Latham does not recover; Mitchell Santner will continue as a Kiwi red ball captain

New Zealand test captain Tom Latham, who was excluded from the first test due to a shoulder injury, suffered a rehabilitation but could not clean the fitness test on the eve of the second match, following which Santner had to continue his role for the second match.

“He (Tom Latham) worked hard and followed the second test well, but unfortunately, today, he could not pass his fitness tests,” said Rob Walter. “He is extremely emptied, he will not be able to take the park, and we really feel for him.”

Santner has become the 32nd test captain in the history of New Zealand cricket. However, he does not assume the role of a regular skipper, because his appointment is only a replacement skipper due to the unavailability of Tom Latham.

Bevon Jacobs replaces Tom Latham

The management of New Zealand and Rob Walter needed a pair of additional hands on the side in the absence of Latham; Therefore, they had to opt for an immediate replacement that could be available instantly.

The striker of Auckland Aces, Bevon Jacobs, who was also chosen by the Indians of Mumbai in IPL, was drafted in the team as a field cover and striker. The 23 -year -old was playing the cricket club in Johannesburg and could fly within a short time.

“With Tom being excluded the day before the match, we had to quickly bring a pair of additional hands,” said Walter. “Fortunately, Bevon had played Johannesburg and had been able to make the short trip.”

New Zealand has not yet started its WTC 2025-27 cycle

The world champions of the World World Championship 2021 failed to browse the other WTC finals, whether in 2023 or 2025. However, New Zealand did not organize a disappointing performance, but they failed for various reasons.

Currently, the series against Zimbabwe is not part of the WTC because Zimbabwe is not one of the 9 Nations of the ICC test considered for the WTC cycle.
