Bengaluru shock: 41-year-old manager killed with dumbbell in office following dispute over light switch

A late-night argument over switching off a light turned fatal in Bengaluru when a 41-year-old manager was brutally beaten to death by his colleague at an office in Govindarajanagar early on Saturday.

The victim, identified as Bheemesh Babu of Chitradurga district, worked as a manager in Digital data banka company specializing in film and production video storage. The accused, Somala Vamshi, 24, of Vijayawada, was employed as a technical executive in the same company.

According to police, the two men lived and worked in the same rented office, which also served as housing for employees assigned to night projects. Around 1:30 a.m., an argument broke out when Babu, apparently sensitive to bright lights, asked Vamshi to turn them off. The verbal argument quickly escalated into violence.

In a sudden fit of rage, Vamshi allegedly threw chilli powder at Babu and then attacked him repeatedly with a dumbbell, hitting his head, face and chest. Babu collapsed on the spot, succumbing to serious injuries before medical help arrived.

Alarmed colleagues rushed to the scene and called emergency services, but paramedics pronounced Babu dead on arrival. Overwhelmed by panic and guilt, Vamshi allegedly sought help from colleagues before going to the Govindarajanagar police station, where he surrendered and confessed to the assault.

The police registered a case of murder under Section 302 of the IPC and took Vamshi into custody. DCP (West) Girish S confirmed that the fight was a result of a disagreement over turning off the lights, saying: The preliminary investigation suggests that it was a sudden fight which took a violent turn.»

Investigators are looking into whether previous tensions or workplace issues may have contributed to the fatal confrontation. The body has been sent for post-mortem to Victoria Hospital and further investigation is underway.
