Gabonese court sentences Sylvia and Noureddin Bongo to 20 years in prison


A Gabonese court on Wednesday sentenced former first lady Sylvia Bongo and her son, Noureddin Bongo, to 20 years in prison following a quick two-day corruption trial that found them guilty of embezzlement and other charges. The two men were accused of exploiting former President Ali Bongo’s poor health to siphon off state funds during his 14-year rule.
