Celtic struck gold with ‘fearless’ star

Celtic striker Daizen Maeda could be on the move in the January transfer window after claiming he is ready to leave the Scottish giants.

Journalist Graeme Bailey reported earlier this week that the Japan international was “ready to leave” the club, after the Hoops blocked a potential move away from Parkhead this summer.

It remains to be seen how much money the Scottish Premiership champions could earn him in January, but he is currently the most valuable member of the squad.

The most valuable players of the Celtic team

According to Transfermarkt, Maeda is currently valued at £13m. That’s at least £1 million more than any other member of the squad, showing just how valuable he is to the team.

The Japanese striker scored 33 goals and provided 12 assists in 51 matches in all competitions (Transfermarkt) last season, which is why he is so highly regarded and why losing him in January would be a big blow.

As you can see in the table above, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Reo Hatate, Arne Engels and Alistair Johnston make up the rest of the club’s five most valuable players.

Celtic’s top scorer in all competitions, Benjamin Nygren, is not among the five most valuable players, but he could make that list if he maintains his current form, as the Hoops already appear to have hit the jackpot with him.

Celtic hit the jackpot with Benjamin Nygren

The Scottish giants signed central midfielder Nordsjaelland for a reported £1.3million in the summer transfer window to bolster Brendan Rodgers’ options out wide and in midfield.

Celtic were able to secure a cut-price deal for the Sweden international as his contract with the Danish club was due to expire at the end of 2025, meaning they were able to take advantage of the situation to secure a bargain deal.

The left-footed star, described as “fearless” by international team-mate Alexander Isak, has put in quality performances on the Premiership pitch which prove the Hoops have hit the jackpot with this signing.

As you can see in the table above, Nygren has been one of, if not the best midfielders in the division at scoring and creating goals this season.

The 24-year-old star, who is the club’s top scorer in all competitions with four goals (Transfermarkt), has scored four goals and created 2.6 chances per game in seven Premiership outings, according to Sofascore.

While these stats show that Celtic hit the jackpot on Nygren due to his exceptional performances on the pitch, the club also struck gold with their stock market valuation.

Transfermarkt currently values the Sweden international at £5.2m. That’s 300% more than the £1.3million fee the Hoops reportedly paid for him this summer, suggesting they could make a significant profit on him if they decide to cash in.

Therefore, Celtic have hit the jackpot with this signing as it has already worked on the pitch, and the finances behind it make it all the more impressive.
