The movement of Israel on the ground

In the aftermath of Al-Assad’s eviction, Israeli troops advanced in the Syrian side of the Golan Heights, including areas of the demilitarized zone on the conduct of the United Nations, violating the 1974 disengagement agreement with Syria.

The foray has aroused many international criticisms. The UN, as well as several Arab nations, condemned Israel’s actions as violations of international law and violations of Syria’s sovereignty.

Despite these convictions, the Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said in February that Israeli forces would remain in the region indefinitely to “protect Israeli citizens” and “prevent hostile entities from gaining ground” near the border.

Satellite imagery captured in February and analyzed by the Al Jazeera Sanad Verification Unit showed that six military bases were under construction in the underaised buffer zone on the border with Syria.

Since taking power following the overthrow of Al-Assad, President Ahmed Al-Sharaa has always declared that his government has not been looking for any conflict with Israel and will not allow Syria to be used by foreign actors to launch attacks.

He condemned the continuous strikes of Israel on Syrian territory and its progressive expansion beyond the Golan Heights already occupied.
