Canadian adolescent McIntosh sets a new 200 -meter world record

Montreal: Summer McIntosh broke the world record old decade in the 200m 200m female meter on Monday, with 2 minutes 05.70 seconds at Canadian swimming trials for its second world record for competition.

The 18 -year -old broke the mark of 2: 06.12 of the Hungarian swimmer Katinka Hosszu, becoming the first woman to swim the event in less than 2:06.

This feat comes just two days after McIntosh has set a new world record in the 400m freestyle, adding to its growing heritage as a triple Olympic gold medalist.

The gifted Canadian teenager had also impressed on Sunday victory at the 800m freestyle, blocking the fastest third time in the history of an event which is generally not considered her strongest.

However, McIntosh has shown no sign of fatigue with another dazzling performance to delight the crowd in British Columbia on Monday.

“Overall, really satisfied with that time and always trying to continue to move forward,” said McIntosh after its record display.

“It’s great. 200m is my main race for my five or six best races where I really have to perform perfectly.

“There is no room for errors and it’s a kind of sprint event for me, so I’m really happy with that. It gives me a lot of confidence before Singapore,” added McIntosh, referring to the world championships next month.

When asked how she had prepared for the effort on Monday after an exhausting weekend, she added: “Just get back, sleep as much as possible and eat a lot.

“And also to calm me mentally and take a race at a time.

“I have had a lot of practice in recent years.”

McIntosh threw the foundations of his assault against the disc with impeccable opening sections in the butterfly and a back before an improvement in the breaststroke – its weakest discipline – left it to the record world.

From there, she turned on the burners after the fence combinations to erase the Hosszu record.

Mary-Sophie Harvey followed second row in 2: 08.78 with Ashley McMillan third in 2: 12.08.
