Cameron Green left for duck just after ₹25.20 crore IPL 2026 auction deal, KKR left worried

Australian all-rounder Cameron Green had a poor outing after being bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 mini-auction. Right-handed batter Cameron Green was dismissed for a two-ball duck by England fast bowler Jofra Archer on the first day of the third Test during the Ashes 2025-26.

Cameron Green attracted bids from Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings during the auction. Chennai pushed the price close to Rs 25 crore, but KKR, which had a huge purse of Rs 64.3 crore, signed the all-rounder for Rs 25.2 crore. Cameron Green has become the most expensive foreign player ever purchased in the history of IPL auctions.

Archer then got rid of Marnus Labuschagne for 19 and followed it up by dismissing Cameron Green without scoring. Green came in at number five but only faced two balls before returning to the locker room without scoring.

Green’s failure has once again attracted attention, with many highlighting his continued struggle for form. He has not scored a half-century in any format in the last six months.

Australia were also without Steve Smith, who missed the match due to illness. Pat Cummins returned to lead the team, while spinner Nathan Lyon was included in the playing XI.

Marnus Labuschagne leaves for the first ball after lunch

Marnus Labuschagne left with the first ball of the second session. He played a loose cross-court shot which went straight to Brydon Carse at mid-wicket. Labuschagne had looked solid before the break and the manner in which he came out drew heavy criticism.

Former England bowler Alex Hartley called it an extremely soft dismissal and said Australia had given England an easy wicket.

“I honestly can’t believe what we’ve just seen. It’s the softest dismissal we’ve seen in this series so far. It gave England a wicket. Quite shocking,” former England bowler Alex Hartley said on the BBC’s Test Match Special.

Australia reach 94/2 at lunch after chaotic start in Adelaide

Australia scored 94 runs for the loss of two wickets before the lunch break on the first day of the third Test in Adelaide. The morning was marked by sudden drama for the hosts.

Just minutes before the toss, Australia ruled out Steve Smith due to nausea and dizziness. His late withdrawal shocked the team, especially after he practiced with the bat the day before and looked ready to play.

Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat, forcing Australia into a quick change. Usman Khawaja earned an unexpected return to the XI after missing the previous match due to back spasms.

The selectors kept things simple and avoided a batting reshuffle. Khawaja stepped straight into Smith’s usual spot at number four, giving Australia some stability after a chaotic start.
