British man dies after being shot during flight in Ghana

A British man died on Friday after being shot during a robbery in Ghana, police said.

Ashraf Qarmar Parvez, 68, was shot dead after trying to prevent an attempted theft of his phone at a liquor store in Tema, a town east of the Ghanaian capital, Accra. He later died at the hospital, police said.

Ghanaian authorities are searching for the shooter, one of six suspects they say were at the scene and fled on motorcycles.

Britain’s Foreign Office said it was supporting the family of a man who died.

A spent 9mm bullet was recovered from the scene of the shooting and police were interviewing witnesses as part of their investigation.

The incident sparked security concerns in the industrial town of Tema, but a local police spokesperson told the BBC the shooting was a rare incident.
