BCCI wants clarification from Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar on ‘confusing tactics on and off the field’, World Cup contenders

With the T20 World Cup 2026 just around the corner and the team already preparing for the ODI World Cup in 2027, the BCCI wants clarity from the management.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is scheduled to hold a meeting with the stakeholders to obtain clarity on the way forward for the side across all formats of the game. The decision comes after India suffered their second whitewash at home in a year’s time, this time at the hands of WTC 2023/25 champions South Africa. With the T20 World Cup 2026 just around the corner and the team already preparing for the ODI World Cup in 2027, the board now wants clarity from the coach, selectors and the management on the roadmap for the future.
BCCI to seek clarity from Gambhir, Agarkar before IND vs SA 2nd ODI
As per Sportstar, the meeting will involve BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, joint secretary Prabhtej Bhatia, head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkjar. The report states that the meeting will take place on Wednesday, the day the IND vs SA 2nd ODI is scheduled to take place, and also claims that it is unlikely that any senior player will attend the meeting while it is unclear if BCCI president Mithun Mahnas will participate.
“During the home Test season, there have been instances of confusing tactics on and off the field. We want clarity and forward planning, especially with the next Test series eight months away,” an official told the publication.
Gambhir and Agarkar have come under fire for their tactics and selections in the recently concluded Test series against SA. Apart from the worries over the Test team and the strategies revolving around that, there also seems to be an issue in the 50-over format of the game, especially with the future of seniors like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja. The BCCI official admitted that there were communication gaps between the management and the senior players, adding that the motive of the meeting was to iron out the differences and seek clarity from the chief selector and the head coach on the way forward.
“India will be favourites to defend the T20 World Cup next year and strong contenders for the ODI World Cup after that, so we want these issues resolved quickly,” the official added.
