BBC on Luzon island as super typhoon approaches Philippines

A storm battering the Philippines’ largest island has been upgraded to a super typhoon, with the region already experiencing “life-threatening conditions.”

Typhoon Fung Wong will bring sustained winds of 185 km/h (155 mph) and torrential rain to several areas on Sunday, according to the country’s weather service, Pagasa.

The BBC’s Jonathan Head is on the island of Luzon and says the region is bracing for an “absolutely massive storm”.
