Angel Reese sparks controversy after comments about therapy

WNBA superstar Angel Reese sparked some controversy online after sharing critical comments about therapy, although she never attended a session.
Reese’s comments came during a segment on her podcast, “Unapologetically Angel,” where she spoke with rapper Monaleo about her belief that mental health professionals aren’t always honest with celebrity clients because they can’t understand their perspective.
Angel Reese has sparked conversation before, most notably after paying off her mother’s mortgage in 2025, shortly after claiming the WNBA wasn’t paying her enough to cover her bills.

Angel Reese shares critical comments about therapists despite never being there
Reese’s “Unapologetically Angel” podcast has featured many A-list guests, including NBA stars, award-winning actors, and trending rappers.
The latest episode featured a lengthy conversation with rapper Monaleo, who rose to prominence after the release of her viral hit “Putting Ya Dine.”
During their conversation, both women talked about the pressures of fame, and that’s when Reese made an interesting comment about therapy, suggesting that traditional therapists wouldn’t be helpful to celebrities due to their different backgrounds.

“No one will understand what we are going through [as celebrities]”, Reese said. “You talk to a therapist, you pay a therapist and you talk to him about your problems, he will tell you what you want to hear. But they will never really understand, especially at the level we are at. »

Monaleo applauds Angel Reese for her comments about therapists
It didn’t take long for Monaleo to respond and offer her perspective on therapists, urging the Chicago Sky star to try it herself before giving such a strong opinion.
“You’d be surprised,” Monaleo said. “Number one, [therapists] have a means and a method [of] psychoanalyze and make sense of many things that don’t make sense in your mind. »
As she continued, Monaleo suggested Reese find a mental health professional who could help her “connect the dots” in a way that made sense to her. She also reminded Reese, 23, that therapists don’t have to be famous to offer real help.
“I try not to add that extra layer because I don’t feel like they have to figure that out to help me get from point A to point B,” Monaleo finished.

Angel Reese rubbed some people the wrong way

Social media users reacted almost immediately to Reese’s comments about therapy, expressing frustration with the rising star’s misinformed stance on a life-changing tool in many people’s lives.
“She’s never been to therapy but she has the courage to say it,” someone wrote. “I’m so glad it was fixed.”
“Speaking negatively about therapy when you’ve never been to it is strange,” said another.
“Girl, my therapist never tells me what I want to hear,” a third user posted.
“Therapy is so healing and helpful if you actually do the work,” added a fourth.

Reese sparked controversy earlier this year

Of course, this isn’t the first time Reese has sparked controversy among netizens, according to The Blast.
In early 2025, the LSU alum turned heads when she revealed during a social media livestream that her WNBA salary of nearly $80,000 wasn’t enough to pay her bills.
She sparked even more conversation months later when she revealed on her podcast that she had paid off her mother’s mortgage and offered to retire her mother if she wanted.
“Is this the same person who said she couldn’t afford to pay her rent?” someone asked on X, formerly Twitter.
However, another user chimed in to defend the NCAA national champion, saying what she did for her family was a major accomplishment that couldn’t be diminished.
Reese walked in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

In addition to her podcast, Reese has been busy this offseason, from appearing in Netflix movies with Idris Elba to making her Victoria’s Secret fashion show debut.
That’s right, the 6’3″ power forward was seen strutting his stuff in early October as an official VS Angel, wings and all.
She spoke about the unique experience in a previous interview, according to The Blast, describing the event as a “surreal, full-circle moment.”
“I literally couldn’t stop smiling!” she said. “It’s such a surreal, full-circle moment. Just last year, I was in the audience stepping out on that runway, completely inspired and in awe of all the powerful women walking the runway, and now I get to return as an angel. It will be an unforgettable night that I will always be grateful for.”
