Aston Villa transfer news: Conor Gallagher signing from Atletico Madrid explored | Football news

Aston Villa are exploring the possibility of signing Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid.

There is interest for an initial loan with an option to purchase.

Sources indicated the future of Harvey Elliott could impact Villa’s ability to complete a deal for Gallagher.

Villa will not fulfill the obligation to buy Elliot for £35 million and are trying to find a solution for him to play elsewhere.

Gallagher is of long-term interest to Villa, but Atletico Madrid do not want him to go out on loan unless there is a mandatory permanent aspect to the deal – and they want a fee close to what they paid for him.

He joined Chelsea in the summer of 2024 for £38 million and is still only 25 years old. He was loaned out to Charlton, Swansea, West Brom and Crystal Palace while signing for the Blues.

The midfielder made 50 appearances for Atletico in his first season, scoring four goals. He has played 27 times in the current campaign and started the Spanish Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid in midweek.

Gallagher may also be considering his chances of being recalled to England ahead of the next World Cup.
