Man United not interested in Thomas Tuchel to replace Amorim

Speculation over who could replace Rúben Amorim at Manchester United if his tenure does not go as planned has intensified in recent weeks.

Among the names being bandied about by pundits and tabloids is Thomas Tuchel, the experienced German coach known for his stints at Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.

However, according to The Sun, United have decided to keep Tuchel off the table.

The club reportedly have no plans to pursue the 52-year-old should Amorim leave, dismissing suggestions he is in contention for the job.

Thomas Tuchel has had a lot of success

Given Tuchel’s pedigree and recent managerial track record, it is no surprise that his name has cropped up in rumors linking him to the Old Trafford hot seat.

The German coach guided Chelsea to Champions League triumph in 2021, during which his side beat Manchester City in the final.

With United publicly underperforming and under pressure, many saw Tuchel as a viable option to bring order and experience to a club yearning for consistency.

Another point to note is that Amorim remains strongly supported, at least publicly. United have not indicated a change is imminent, and this report on Tuchel may also be aimed at allaying media speculation and reassuring the club’s manager’s stability.

But the Red Devils have other ideas in mind. Recently, in an interview, Sir Jim Ratcliffe admitted that he has decided to support Amorim at the club and that he believes the Portuguese coach deserves three years at Old Trafford.

It remains to be seen whether this will be the case given that a few results against United may change opinions and noise from fans could increase.

At present, Tuchel is reportedly not among the options being considered by the club.

Names recently linked include Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, both of whom have impressed since their time in English football.
