Arkema, a French supplier of special materials, has obtained ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) PLUS certification for special polyester resins manufactured at its Gissi factory in Italy.
The Gissii site adds to Arkema’s network of Iscc Plus-certified advanced liquid resin plants, which includes sites in Grand Rapids, Michigan; Mollet del Vallès, Spain; Navi Mumbai, India; North Kansas City, Missouri; Pasir Gudang, Malaysia; Sant Celoni, Italy and Zwickau, Germany.
The certification is aimed at customers seeking to increase the use of alternative raw materials in polyurethane systems for construction adhesives, packaging, automotive and other industrial uses.
This latest initiative further expands the company’s mass balance program across its advanced liquid resins operations.
The mass balance chain of custody tracks the flow of materials through a production system and attributes the inputs of a production process to the outputs of that process through certified accounting.
This ensures that certified raw materials replace an equivalent amount of fossil raw materials.
The bio-attributed content represents the share of bio-sourced or recycled raw material allocated within the framework of ISCC PLUS.
This latest accreditation is part of Arkema’s broader mass balance strategy covering technologies and products across its coatings portfolio, including high-solids, water-based, ultraviolet light-emitting diode e-beam and polyester powder solutions.
Franck CHARRIER, Arkema’s global sales director for advanced liquid and powder resins, said: “This announcement marks a considerable milestone for Arkema since all of our advanced liquid resin plants around the world, acrylics, polyesters, alkyds and polyamides, are now ISCC PLUS certified.
“Gissi’s certification brings us closer to our overall goal of improving the way products are made and supporting industry-wide goals related to reducing the carbon footprint.”
Arkema achieved a turnover of 9.5 billion euros in 2024 and is present in 55 countries and employs 21,150 people.
