In the post shared on Sunday, January 4, Anthony wears a matching green tracksuit with a camouflage scarf and black sneakers. He is also surrounded by four women, who appear to be the families of the two men lost in the recent car crash in Nigeria. A woman holds a framed photo of one of the men as they all look at the camera, capturing a mix of strength, grief and solidarity. In another photo, Anthony is seated next to a man dressed in a white tank top and gray pants, who wraps an arm around the champion while pointing at him. Anthony keeps it simple by holding up a finger. His caption read “My brothers keeper” followed by a combat hat and red heart emoji.

Driver charged after crash expected in court

The driver of the crash that injured Anthony Joshua and tragically killed two members of his team has faced serious charges, Nigerian police have confirmed. Adenyi Mobalaji Kayode, 46, was driving the Lexus SUV on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway when he rammed into a stationary truck. Additionally, the accident left Joshua and the driver with minor injuries. Meanwhile, it cost the lives of Sina Ghami And Latif Ayodeletwo members of the champion’s training team.

The Ogun State Police Command said Kayode was arraigned on Friday at the Sagamu Magistrate’s Court and charged with rash and dangerous driving causing death. Additional charges would include driving without a valid license and driving without due care and attention, resulting in bodily injury and property damage. He was granted bail of five million naira ($3,500), but will remain in custody until he fulfills the conditions. Additionally, his next court date is set for January 20.

What we know about the fatal accident

In December, a car accident involving Anthony Joshua rocked the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, leaving the boxing superstar with minor injuries. The Lexus SUV carrying Joshua reportedly lost control while accelerating during an overtaking maneuver. Furthermore, he collided with a stationary truck, according to Olusegun Ogungbemide, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps. Joshua, sitting in the back seat, was taken to hospital for checks and treatment. His condition was stable and another passenger was also injured.

Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed that ambulances had been dispatched to the scene, while Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, personally called Joshua and his mother to offer condolences over the death of his two associates and to wish the champion a speedy recovery. Ogun State Police Commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo told the AP that Joshua was still at an undisclosed hospital receiving treatment. However, no further details about his condition have been released.
