Amazon denies that he closes Wondery, the podcast studio he acquired at the end of 2020, after Bloomberg reported on Monday that the company closed the studio and had reduced 110 jobs.
Amazon told Techcrunch that Wondery will continue to develop podcasts led by creators under the Wondery brand in a new team. What changes is that the company separates the teams that oversee Wondery’s narrative efforts from those who develop its programs led by creators.
Wondery combines his narrative podcast studio, which includes podcasts like Dr Death and American Scandal, with Audible.
“The podcast landscape has evolved considerably in recent years, in particular with the rise of video content and led by the creator,” said Amazon in a statement sent by e-mail.
“These changes reflect this evolution and will rationalize the way Wondery integrates further into Amazon.
Despite the securing of big names in the company, the company now moves its strategy in order to better compete with competitors like Spotify and YouTube while the Podcasting industry embraces video formats.
