Alex DeBrincat’s three-pointer helps Red Wings shut out Canadiens

Alex DeBrincat scored a goal and recorded two assists while Lucas Raymond added a goal to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-0 road victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
Dylan Larkin scored a power play goal and Andrew Copp scored an empty-netter, both also recording an assist with Patrick Kane and Moritz Seider.
Red Wings goaltender John Gibson finished with 27 saves and completed his third shutout of the season, all coming in his last 12 starts. Gibson recorded 15 of his saves in the third period.
Cole Caufield led the Canadians with five shots on target while Nick Suzuki added four. Montreal was shut out for the third time this season and for the second time in its last five games.
DeBrincat gave the Red Wings a 3-0 lead after scoring his 23rd goal of the season 34 seconds into the third period. This was DeBrincat’s fifth three-point game of the season and 14th multi-point game.
Copp added his empty-net goal with 1:07 left to give the Red Wings a 4-0 lead. He was assisted by DeBrincat and Larkin.
Raymond, who hit the post twice Saturday, opened the scoring in the second period after Canadiens goalie Jacob Fowler misplayed a puck that sent a freak carom flying out of the backstop. Raymond took advantage of his mistake by shooting into an open net to score his 14th goal of the season.
The Red Wings then took a 2-0 lead in the second period on a power play goal from Larkin. The goal ended the Canadians’ streak of 14 consecutive power plays without conceding a goal.
Detroit was 1 for 5 on the power play while the Canadiens failed to score on their only power play opportunity.
Montreal will look to bounce back on Monday with a home game against the Vancouver Canucks. Detroit will look to extend its three-game winning streak at home against the Carolina Hurricanes.
