Harrison Bader and Nick Castellanos dominated, Alec Bohm succeeded two strokes and three points produced after being activated earlier during the day, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-2 in Phoenix on Friday.
Bader finished a triple below a cycle while the Phillies went to 31-15 from the commercial deadline of July 31, the best record in baseball. Castellanos made two strokes and three points produced after entering as a twinge striker in sixth round.
Ketel Marte ended up with a shy triple of a cycle for the Diamondbacks (77-77), which led 2-0 after the first round but lost a match after having gone out for the 45th time, for the most part in the majors.
The Phillies (92-62) closed a few games from the Brewers from Milwaukee (94-60) for the best NL record, although the brewers hold the equality break. The two best finish in each league receive a bye in the playoffs in the first round.
The D-Backs saw their weak hopes in the playoff series take a hit because they dropped three games behind the dishes (80-74) for the third Wild Card with eight games to play. The Cincinnati Reds (78-76) are two games from New York.
The Homer in solo of Bader off the starter of Arizona, Ryne Nelson, equaled the match at 2-2 in the fifth, and the single of Rbi de Weston Wilson gave the phillies an advance of 3-2 in sixth. Jalen Beeks (5-2), the second of the five Arizona launchers, took the defeat.
Castellanos struck a two-point circuit in the eighth to do it 5-2, and Bohm delivered a single two points in the ninth before Castellanos added RBI success.
Bader hits 0.340 with five circuits and 16 points produced since he joined the Phillies of the Twins of Minnesota on July 31. He has 17 circuits this season.
The D-Backs loaded the basics in the eighth of Walker Buehler (9-7) on the simple and the two walks of Marte, but Tanner Banks entered and withdrew the Jordan Lawlar pinching on a popout to preserve an advance of 5-2.
Buehler abandoned two strokes, withdrawn three and walked two in 3 2/3 relief innings, after the starter Taijuan Walker in a pre-arranged piggy-back. Walker granted five strokes and two points in four rounds. He attracted two and published a free pass.
The D-Backs jumped on Walker for two points in the first. Marte managed a withdrawal in front of Corbin Carroll and Gabriel Moreno in simple. Carroll scored on Blaze Blazer’s-Choice Grounder of Fielder.
Bohm doubled Brandon Marsh in the second. Bohm has played his first game since September 7 after spending time on the injured list due to inflammation of the left shoulder.
