Airbnb apologizes after the host of fresh images to claim damage

Airbnb would have apologized to a woman after the host of an apartment in Manhattan where she remained used from artificial intelligence to do to do the images of the house, saying that she had caused thousands of dollars in damage.

A woman based in London reserved the apartment of a room in Manhattan for a stay of 2 and a half months earlier this year, reported The Guardian. Citing security problems in the region, the woman stayed for seven weeks and left Airbnb early.

However, the host claims that the guest left $ 16,000 in damages. To save his complaint, he submitted images of a cracked and alleged coffee table that the guest stained a mattress with urine and damaged a robot vacuum cleaner, a sofa, a microwave, a television and an air conditioner.

The woman denied allegations, saying that she had only had two visitors during her stay. When she looked closely at the images, she noticed that the one showing the coffee table had been manipulated, the report indicates.

She believed that the host had probably retaliated because she had ended her rental early.

Airbnb first told the guest that after examining the photos, she should pay more than $ 7,000 to the host.

“I informed them that I can testify to an eyewitness who was with me during the cash register and that I can attest under oath to the state in which the property was left: clean, intact and in good condition,” the guest at the Guardian told.

“I also clearly demonstrated visual deviations in images of the same object (wooden table) provided by the host who show clear manufacturing signs,” she added. “These inconsistencies are simply not possible in authentic and not published photographs of the same object.”

A few days after the Guardian questioned Airbnb on the issue, the short -term stay giant told the woman that she had accepted her call and credited her account with $ 580. The company finally reimbursed the total cost of the reservation after having said that it would no longer use the site.

“My concern is for future customers who could become victims of similar fraudulent complaints and cannot afford so much or give fear of fear of escalation,” said the woman.

“Given the ease with which such images can now be generated by AI and apparently accepted by Airbnb despite the surveys, it should not be so easy for a host to get away with evidence in this way.”

The host of the apartment, which was listed as a “superhost”, was warned by Airbnb to have violated its conditions and said that it would be deleted if there was another similar relationship.
