‘Adolescence’ star Owen Cooper hints at bold career move after breakout year

Owen Cooper’s eyes are on his full-time acting career.
The 16-year-old aspiring actor, who rose to fame thanks to his performance in the hit 2025 Netflix series, Adolescencerevealed in a recent conversation on the BBCIt is Graham Norton Show that as soon as his GCSE exams are completed he will continue playing full-time.
“I still have my GCSEs to do,” Owen said. “I only have about six months left, and then I’m leaving – and hopefully I’ll be an actor.”
Owen starred as Jamie Miller alongside Stephen Graham and became the youngest man to win a primetime Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Elsewhere on the talk show, Owen opened up about his and his parents’ experience at the Emmy ceremony.
“It was crazy and everything was a bit of a blur. The amount of people I met there was insane. It was honestly the best day of my life,” he noted.
“I was nervous about the reaction, but a week after it came out it all blew up. It’s been a good year,” Owen added of the night.
Owen was also nominated for the 2026 Golden Globes and could once again become the youngest man to win the Oscars.
