James Wan produces new film ‘Paranormal Activity’

Horror film icon James Wan joins one of the most important series in the paranormal genre after his company Atomic Monster merged with Jason Blum’s Blumhouse studio.

As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, the eight films in the franchise will benefit from co-financing from Paramount.

Wan said: “I’ve been a big admirer of Paranormal Activity since the brilliant first film, with its slow burn and subtle ability to make the invisible terrifying.”

“I look forward to building on his legacy and helping shape the next evolution of this chilling found footage franchise,” he added.

The original film – released in 2007 – had a budget of just $15,000 and made Blumhouse a household name after Blum discovered the film and provided additional financing, with the release becoming one of the highest-grossing films of all time.

Blum added: “Dive in with James for this exciting revival of the franchise that started it all for Blumhouse is exactly what we dreamed of when we merged with Atomic Monster.”

“I’m going to be actively involved with him to introduce this new chapter,” Blum said, also mentioning, “Luckily, we’re able to spend a little more than the $15,000 we had for the first film, but one thing will remain the same: don’t see it alone.”

The original film was followed by Paranormal Activity 2 (2010), Paranormal Activity 3 (2011), and Paranormal Activity 4 (2012).
