A Star Wars legend makes a very devious cameo in Andor Season 2

“Andor” overall was quite different in the universe “Star Wars” before him. A galactic and granular political drama of two seasons telling the rise of the rebellion and leading directly to the events of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”, it is by far the most adult that this franchise has ever been. Nor was it important on the cameos or things of this nature, which is the main reason why we have not seen a young Princess Leia, for example. But that does not mean that there was no cameos to watch; They were just hidden in sight.

One of the cameos most impossible to identify in “Andor” season 2, episode 4 (entitled “Ever was in Ghorman?”), Who helps prepare the ground for the massacre of Ghorman that we see in episode 8 (entitled “Who are you?”). In the episode, Cassian (Diego Luna) is responsible for spotting the inhabitants of Ghorman, who plan to rebel against the Empire. Before heading to the planet, however, he gave a false identity via a earpiece, with an off -screen voice nourishing the relevant details. This voice was supplied by none other than Sam Witwer, alias the voice of Dark Maul on various animated series and a legend of “Star Wars” in its own right.

“Your name is Varian Skye. You have moved to the fashion district where you have found the work as an assistant designer,” said the voice. Witwer’s voice, however, is sufficiently distorted so that it is difficult to recognize that it is indeed he who provides Cassian these important details. So, even if we never see Witwer on the screen, he has a key role to play in this episode.

It should be noted that Witwer also had a short but important cameo in “Andor” season 1, episode 7, playing the Stormtrooper which stops Cassian.

Andor Season 2 adds to Sam Witwer’s impressive CV of Sam Witwer Star Wars

Witwer may not be a name that most people instantly recognize, but he is certainly someone that fans of the “Star Wars” franchise know of his work. The actor made his debut in a galaxy far, far by expressing Starkiller / Galen Marek, alias the secret apprentice of Dark Vader, in video games “Force Unleashed”. And although these games were no longer canon, it was the beginning of a long relationship between Witwer and Lucasfilm.

Indeed, most fans of “Star Wars” know Witwer mainly like the voice of Dark Maul on “The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars Rebels”. After being cut in two by Obi -Wan Kenobi in “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom threat”, Dark Maul was left for dead by Palpatine. However, by abandoning the “Dark” part of his name, Maul returned to the galaxy in season 3 of “The Clone Wars”, becoming an extremely important part of the show. Witwer, in turn, helped bring a lot of depth to the favorite character of fans, later resuming the role once again in “Rebels” (where Maul finally met his disappearance).

Witwer also has the distinction of being one of the few players to have portrayed Palpatine over the years, having expressed the head of the Empire in “The Force Unleashed”, “Star Wars Battlefront” and several other video games over the years. Witwer is one of those actors who is one of the fabric of “Star Wars”, a bit like Warwick Davis (which played the counter The Ewok in “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi”, to come back as several other characters also over the years).

Witwer’s heritage in the franchise will continue next year while he will return as Maul for the animated series “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord”, which was announced during the celebration of Star Wars this year. This series will happen again following “The Clone Wars”, filling some crucial gaps in the global chronology of the character.
