A new study links food consumption transformed to potentially fatal diseases

Revolutionary research has once again been available for alarms on health risks linked to transformed meats, sugary drinks and trans fatty acids, with experts declaring that there is “no safe quantity” of meat processed for consumption.
According to the study published in the journal Nature MedicineThe regular contribution of these food components is linked to an increased risk of major diseases, including cancer, type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
The researchers analyzed the data of 60 previous studies to explore the links between these foods and the probability of developing type 2 diabetes, colorectal cancer and ischemic heart disease – a condition characterized by a reduction in blood supply to the heart, Cnn reported.
Dr. Demewoz Haile, the main study of the study and researcher at the Institute of metrics and health assessments in Seattle, stressed that even small quantities of processed meats, sugary drinks and trans fatty acids are linked to an increased risk of fatal diseases.
For example, consumption as little as a hot dog per day was associated with a risk of type 2 diabetes higher by 11% and 7% increased risk of colorectal cancer.
Likewise, drinking the equivalent of a 12 ounce soda daily was linked to an 8% increase in type 2 diabetes risk and an increased risk of ischemic heart disease.
“This current research has once again shown and consistent with previous research … that to obtain health gains, it is preferable to avoid or minimize the usual consumption of each transformed meat, sugary drinks (SSB) and transfast networks produced by industry (TFAS)”, declared Dr Nita Forouhi, head of nutritional epideology at the University of Cambridge. It was not involved in research.
She pointed out that the risk degenerates with increased consumption and for the consumption of processed meat, she cited data which showed that there is no “sure amount”.
According to experts, these foods are linked to health problems for various reasons.
Sugar drinks and transformed meats, such as sausages, salami and burgers, can contribute to inflammation, an important factor in many chronic diseases.
The transformed meats are often cured of nitrites, which can be converted into carcinogenic nitrosamines in the stomach, according to Dr. Gunter Kuhnle, professor of nutrition and food sciences at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom. He was not involved in the study.
Sugar drinks contribute to rapid sugar intake, potentially causing weight gain and an impact on the metabolic routes relevant to heart disease and diabetes, he added.
He also revealed that fatty acids are known to reduce beneficial cholesterol level while increasing harmfuls, which increases the risk of plaque accumulation in arteries and heart disease.
