A Matt Damon Western finds a new audience streaming 15 years later

On the occasion of rare occasions that Matt Damon does not compensate with his best Ben Affleck bud on various filming films, he can generally be found in collaboration with some of the greatest directors on the planet. The star obviously has several incredibly popular films to her credit with Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, Steven Soderbergh and Sir Ridley Scott. But a title of his filmography, going up well more than a decade ago, suddenly feels terribly relevant these days – and this is largely due to the power of streaming.
In 2010, Damon joined forces with Joel and Ethan Coen on a somewhat surprising project: a remake of the classic Western “True Grit”. A remake of the 1969 film with John Wayne would have been quite discouraging, but doing it with some of the biggest names in the company, notably Damon, Jeff Bridges and Josh Brolin (with a Hailee Steinfeld with a fresh face, giving the performance of a lifetime, of course) should also have the impression that the Coen brothers threw the cinema. Fortunately, not only did this daring company resulted in one of the best absolute films that the sisters have ever made, but the public adopted it up to more than 250 million dollars in the world before the Academy responds in kind with 10 nominations (although Zero wins, inexplicably). 15 years later, “True Grit” is standing as one of the most promising stories of success of the century, especially in a post-peeler era where unmized box-office success is increasingly like a rumor.
However, all hope is not lost! A decade and a half could feel like an eternity in terms of tastes and cinematographic trends, but the masses are clearly hungry for entertainment of gender above the rest. “True Grit” is currently available to broadcast on Paramount +, offering a perfect opportunity to a brand new audience to appreciate this modern gem.
The real grain fits perfectly alongside the rest of the programming on Paramount +
Certain things were simply supposed to be: the sides do Westerners over and over again, Matt Damon playing at all costs a lawyer with straight laces in justice, and “True Grit” slips well alongside the rest of the programming focused on the cowboy on paramount +. A look at the 10 best numbers in the streaming service (graciousness of Flixpatrol) confirms that their subscribers simply like old western – whether more open programs like “Yellowstone” or “Tulsa King” or more spiritual hunting films such as “Top Gun: Maverick” (index: the same, except with muscular cars). In this perspective, it is perfectly logical that “True Grit” would call Paramount + Home, even beyond the studio machinations of all this. If the omniscient algorithm recommends “True Grit” to an audience hanging on each Taylor Sheridan series simply because of similar gender vibrations, well, who should we judge?
“True Grit” tells the story of the teenage farm Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld) in search of revenge on the violent outlaw Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin) responsible for the murder with his father’s cold heart. Naturally, any conspiracy “Solitaire wolf and Cub” would not be complete without the graying veterinarians by his side, which is in the form of the Texas Ranger Laboeuf of Damon and Boozehound US-Marshal Rooster Cogburn of Jeff Bridges. In the hands capable of Joel and Ethan Coen (not to mention the director of prolific photography Roger Deakins), this familiar configuration is transformed into a timeless story of dark tragedy, dark humor and very meaning of Americana. Let’s just say that there is a reason why the film is confirmed as one of the greatest westerns of all time, even going beyond the original.
