Bouzkova had the chance to extend the match against Gauff. Decfing 5-3 in the second set with Bouzkova at two points by winning the set, Gauff retreded to break the service, then finally go to equality break. It was a second sloppy set for the two women, each broken four times.
Gauff struck the number of winners, 32 against 16 for his opponent, in the two sets.
“She was playing well, putting a lot of bullets in the field (in the second set),” said Gauff. “It was difficult but overall, happy, how I could stay in there.
“In the first set, I played well. In the second, I missed a few bullets. She put a lot of balls back. Each opponent who plays her difficulties with that.”
Gauff then will face Ekaterina Alexandrova n ° 20, a winner 6-2, 5-2 against his Russian compatriot Veronika Kudermetova.
Pegula, for his part, survived a first trembling set before kicking his game in another equipment. She could not bring together a point of break up against Vondrousova in the first set, but in the second, Pegula broke the Russian in three consecutive games.
The American had six aces, while Vondrousova Double defeated six times during the day.
Pegula was relieved to pass the match.
“Obviously, there was a chance in the first, but sometimes you can’t really get the break,” said Pegula after the match. “You are so close, so close. … I think that when I finally broke it, I released a little. I thought I played it in the right way the first set, I just needed to be a little more aggressive. And then there were moments in the third when I am perhaps a little too aggressive, especially on clumsy photos. To play, that’s so hard. “”
In the fourth round, Pegula will play Laws Boisson de France, a winner 6-3, 0-6, 7-5 against his compatriot, the Joker Elsa Jacquemot.
