Gwyneth Paltrow Reveals the Real Reason She Said Yes to ‘Marty Supreme’

Gwyneth Paltrow explains why she said yes to ‘Marty Supreme’

Gwyneth Paltrow reflects on what led her to Marty Supreme.

Gwyneth, who shares her two children, Moses, 19, and Apple, 21, with ex-husband Chris Martin, noted that she took on the role in Marty Supreme after her children went off to college.

In a Q&A session with Demi Moore for Marty Supremethe Oscar winner said, “I really took a step back significantly. … I did such a crazy number of films before I had my kids.”

“Some years I was doing four films a year, five films a year. I think I didn’t give myself permission to take my time and be strategic,” she continued.

“I was just on this train and going and going and when I had my daughter I really wanted to stop. I stopped completely for three years and since then I’ve dipped my toe in sometimes. But I didn’t want to be in a remote place. I was a single mother,” recalls the Shakespeare in Love star.

She then shared how her children went off to college and then gave her some free time, which led her to accept the role in Marty Supreme.

“And then my kids went to college, and I had this big vacancy in my purpose and direction,” she explained. “And then this guy, Josh Safdie, called me and I was so embarrassing out of the [loop]. I had never even seen Timothée Chalamet in a movie, which is… I swear. Now I have it.”

She could also identify with actress Kay Stone, who decides to return to the stage after a break.

“She made the choice to go back. Anyway, of course, there was the meta thing of her giving up, which I was doing,” Gwyneth said.

Marty Supreme was critically acclaimed, with Gwyneth Paltrow’s partner Timothee Chalamet sweeping the awards and set to win this year’s Best Actor Oscar.
