Not Cameron Green, but an Indian all-rounder could be KKR’s main weapon in IPL 2026

KKR bought all-rounder Anukul Roy for INR 40 only in the recent IPL 2026 auction.

KKR’s entire attention during the IPL 2026 auction was focused on securing Australian all-rounder Cameron Green; they managed to bag him for 25.20 Cr, but given his poor fitness record, he may not be their main all-rounder, or at least shouldn’t be. In fact, truth be told, he is not the best of the exposed bowlers, but fast bowling all-rounders tend to hog the spotlight anyway.

KKR must make room for Anukul Roy while playing in the XI

In the IPL, in the 29 matches he has played, he has picked up only 16 wickets at an average of over 40 and an economy of over 9. Instead, Kolkata should try to accommodate a young Indian all-rounder in their setup and be ready to give him additional responsibilities.

It is none other than Jharkhand’s Anukul Roy, who was bought in the IPL auction for just 40 lakh, but can offer much more than that for the team in IPL 2026. In six seasons so far, he has played only 12 matches where he has six wickets to his name and only 26 runs. But his national record tells a different story.

Can turn things around for Kolkata in IPL 2026

This year, in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where Jharkhand were crowned champions, he played a pivotal role. In 11 matches, he scored 303 runs at an average of 60, with a maximum score of 95. The strike rate was up at 160; he even picked up 18 wickets and the economy was down at just 7.41.

With KKR this season, batting depth seems to be an issue, and Anukul Roy might just solve it – if he is allowed to bat at no. 4, 5, 6, and if they are given regular opportunities to bowl. The Spin department also seems inadequate, and the 27-year-old could fix those issues as well.

KKR full squad: Ajinkya Rahane, Sunil Narine, Rinku Singh, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Manish Pandey, Varun Chakravarthy, Ramandeep Singh, Ankul Roy, Rovman Powell, Harshit Rana, Vaibhav Arora, Umran Malik, Cameron Green (25.20 cr), Matheesha Pathirana (18 cr), Mustafizur Rahman (9.20 cr), Tejasvi Singh (3 cr), Finn Allen (2 cr), Tim Seifert (1.50 cr), Rahul Tripathi (75 L), Kartik Tyagi (30 L), Daksh Kamra (30 L), Sarthak Ranjan (30 L), Prashant Solanki (30 L), Akashdeep (1 cr), Rachin Ravindra (2 cr).
