Return to Longer Standing Driving – BionicOldGuy

I only did shorter walks in an upright position because it was causing neck problems. But I’ve recently become more diligent about PT for my neck and thought I was ready for a longer vertical session. Friday I went for just under two hours and felt great. My neck doesn’t like being bent over the handlebars for long periods of time, but I can give it a break by taking breaks to stand up to pedal, or by using the bar extension setup on my handlebars that I call “standing bars” to sit up straight. I made sure to do one or the other every few minutes.
It’s important that I can do this because my amount is much more portable. Plus, if I want to have adventures on vacation, I can rent locally. The chances of renting a recumbent bike are slim, but upright rentals are common. A local adventure I discovered is renting fat bikes in Monterey, where there are many great places to ride.
Friday’s ride was to Harvey Bear Park in San Martin and back. I hiked part of the Willow Springs Trail, then went back down and around the easy Martin Murphy Trail. It was also a good opportunity to try out my new GoPro again, and I got some good photos and videos.

On the way back, I visited my alpaca friend at his farm in San Martin. There is a short video here. As usual, he got excited and ran towards the fence. Sorry buddy, the sign says please don’t feed the animals.
