Camila and Matthew McConaughey toast the princess star with pants

On a night filled with reflections, singing and star power, The Blast attended the official naming ceremony of Star Princess, Princess Cruises’ newest and most innovative ship, and the event was nothing short of spectacular. Organized in Port Everglades, the evening marked a historic moment for the godparents Matthew And Camila McConaughey officially named the ship, continuing a centuries-old maritime tradition. Instead of breaking out the usual bottle of champagne, the couple used a bottle of their own organic Pantalones tequila to bless the ship, a McConaughey touch that perfectly captured the spirit of the night.

Hosted by lifestyle personality Dawn McCoy, the ceremony took place at the dazzling Princess Arena, where guests were treated to heartfelt tributes, world-class entertainment and a dose of McConaughey charm. Princess Cruises President Gus Antorcha welcomed attendees with a message of pride and optimism before introducing Captain Gennaro Arma of the Star Princess, whose moving speech drew thunderous applause.

From the moment its keel was laid to its first contact with water, Star Princess was built with pride, precision and passion. At sea, a ship becomes much more than metal and glass. Captain Arma then expressed his gratitude to the shipbuilders and leaders who brought Star Princess to life, adding, “Together we connect people, inspire adventure, and create memories that last a lifetime. Star Princess is a ship built for discovery, joy, and life, and we will do everything we can to ensure the light shines wherever she sails.”

The celebration was marked by a moving performance from the nine-time Grammy Award winner. Sheryl Corbeauwhose setlist, which included “All I Wanna Do,” “Soak Up the Sun,” “If It Makes You Happy” and more, filled the arena with energy and emotion. As her final notes faded, the night sky above Port Everglades transformed into a breathtaking drone show, inspired by the Northern Lights and paying homage to Star Princess’ future voyages across Alaska.
